About WBA

“Whyalla is located on the South Australian Eyre Peninsula. The WBA’s home is Pat Kemp Stadium in the Whyalla show ground precinct. It is an airconditioned 3 court complex with hard wood floors. We are able to comfortably seat +500 people around our main court. The venue has modern canteen and bar facilities.

The Whyalla Basketball Association comprises of six affiliated clubs that compete in grades from U10’s (starting at 7 years of age) thru to Senior A grade competitions as well as many lower social grades, down to Women’s F grade. An “Aussie Hoops” skills development program for kids 5-10 y.o. is ran each school term.

The WBA run 2 seasons (Winter and Summer) both are approximately 15 weeks in duration plus finals. With over 1100 players competing per season we are the largest participation sport in Whyalla and one of the biggest basketball associations outside of Adelaide.

The “Steelers” are the WBA’s representative arm, they complete around the state against other associations in Under 10’s to Under 18’s as well as Men and Women’s senior teams.”

LATEST NEWS

Every winter season we get many players coaches and clubs complaining and questioning us as to why we run a winter season when most associations across the state don't. We battle with that ourselves as it is a lot of work manipulating around merged competitions, other sports and priorities ...for a short 12 week season. We understand all this and respect those that choose to focus on primarily Winter sports.
Yet with all that said we had a 15% increase in team nominations to the point we couldn't fit teams in.
So I guess if people want to play then we will continue to offer the opportunity.

There was an error with the Registration closing date for Term 2 Aussie Hoops, preventing some participants from registering. This has now been fixed.

The 1st 6 weeks of the Winter fixture has now been published. It has been tweaked numerous times over the last week or so to accommodate clashes and and club requests. Hopefully it shouldn't change to much more moving forward. Random local football will impact on us in the first 4 weeks of... the season if your team is affected by this notify your club who can then work with the WBA to hopefully work around this if necessary.
NOTE: If you feel your team has got a bad draw eg every game is 9pm . Let us now via your club and we can look at that. This is something that we can't easily report on so rely on feedback from individual teams.

1st 3 weeks of the Winter 2024 schedule has been published and is available on the Basketball connect phone app.
It is a 1st draft and subject to slight changes due to clashes etc.
Sorry for the delay in getting this out, it has been a nightmare schedule to manage this season🤯

There has been some last changes to this table with respect to night of play. NO further changes will be made, the WBA has attempted to work around as much as we can.
Final changes are, two games of Under 16 boys B, will be played on Friday night, one game of this grade will be played on ...Tuesday night.
Womens E grade moves to Tuesday night NOT Friday night.
The below table is just a repost of the original one without the above changes made to it.

The registration process for Aussie Hoops has changed for term 2. This has been forced on us, we are working thru(learning) this new process ourselves. Once we work it out we will release a registration guide.
Aussie Hoops will be ran on Monday afternoon's for term 2.
Cost will again ...be just $3 a session.
