About WBA

“Whyalla is located on the South Australian Eyre Peninsula. The WBA’s home is Pat Kemp Stadium in the Whyalla show ground precinct. It is an airconditioned 3 court complex with hard wood floors. We are able to comfortably seat +500 people around our main court. The venue has modern canteen and bar facilities.

The Whyalla Basketball Association comprises of six affiliated clubs that compete in grades from U10’s (starting at 7 years of age) thru to Senior A grade competitions as well as many lower social grades, down to Women’s F grade. An “Aussie Hoops” skills development program for kids 5-10 y.o. is ran each school term.

The WBA run 2 seasons (Winter and Summer) both are approximately 15 weeks in duration plus finals. With over 1100 players competing per season we are the largest participation sport in Whyalla and one of the biggest basketball associations outside of Adelaide.

The “Steelers” are the WBA’s representative arm, they complete around the state against other associations in Under 10’s to Under 18’s as well as Men and Women’s senior teams.”

LATEST NEWS

In winter we have a number of challengers to our schedule. For example Sapsasa, School camps, Murray Venture, football randomly on Thursday nights affecting some teams but not others. We can work with teams affected IF clubs and teams work with us, namely alert as early as possible.
The WBA ...has Bylaws around rescheduling games:

Thank you for your patience in the 1st week of returning to the Teampay Match day payment model. There were a number of minor issues and will continue to be as people learn the new system! We did an audit over the weekend and were able to fix / claim most of the issue payments we did have.
One... common issue was over payment, players paying twice for the same game. That can be refunded to you on the night if you wish via consultation with the Court supervisor OR we can negotiate to carry over that payment and play free in the next rnd if that is easier for you.
Another issue was people paid but then never turned up to play. This can often be avoided by not paying too early for your match.

It’s been bought to my attention that we have almost missed a very special birthday for a very special lady. Happy 70th birthday to our very own Jo Murphy. True to form she worked in the canteen tonight. If you haven’t wished her a very happy birthday please catch up with her, Happy Birthday ...from all Whyalla Basketball Association members.

Winter season is under way. Here are Some tips to a Smooth start:
- Don't register at the last minute and expect to play. Before you can be added to the game tablet your club administrator must be notified and add you to a team. Don't leave this to the last minute!
- You will ...need a Teampay account setup and ready to go to allow game payments this season. If you haven't got your Teampay team code yet please contact your coach or club.
- Clubs have until rnd 5 to be in corect uniform. If you new uniform is yet to arrive wear something that is your team color or something that won't clash with the opposition.

We had 2 teams withdrawn tonight. That has caused a shuffle of games on Wed and Thursday night that affects U12B, U14BB and Mens E
There is currently a spare slot at 7pm on Thurs that I would like to move one of these 9pm games to. The first 2 teams to comment/contact me and agree to that ...change I will move 😀

Basketball SA is locked into a deal with Basketball Connect as our digital registration partner thus we will be using their platform again this season to manage our games. However the BC "integrated" match day payment system which promised so much did not function effectively for many of... our members. So for this season the WBA has been forced to go back to the more robust and better supported Teampay online Match day payment system.
Unfortunately the Teampay App is not integrated to Basketball Connect so this will have to be downloaded by each member to make your match day payments.
Each team has a unique Teampay code which has been distributed to your club to issue to team managers/coaches. Once they have registered on the App they will then issue that code to their players.

Key Facts:
- Game fees haven't changed: $5 for juniors games $6 for senior games. + an admin fee. NOTE: If junior plays a senior game the fee is $6.
- Individuals can make game payments via the App prior to tjhe game OR the Team manager can make payments on behalf of each player (like we did with Basketball Connect)
- Teampay is not linked to the game tablet! Thus payments issues will not block a player from playing or hold up the game.
- Players can now easily be entered into the Court tablets by the scorer's rather than having to use the Basketball Connect phone app.
- Team managers can pay on behalf of a player that has a failed payment. And they can pay them back later or pay them with cash etc.
- Games managers will audit each game to ensure Teampay payments have been made.
- Mistaken/ Accidental payments - contact the games manager and they can quickly refund that person.
- If your team has paid but the game is forfeited at late notice contact the game manager for a refund.
- Playing an unfinancial player will result in the game being forfeited. NOTE: There will be a grace period while people learn the system.
