Bevan Is the WBA’s 2nd oldest club established in 1970. Bevan’s on court success is evident by the fact they hold the record for the most MA premierships in the WBA. |
Administratively for 40 years Bevan has been led by Life Member Pat kemp. Pat’s commitment to Bevan the WBA and SA Country has been officially recognised by all 3 these bodies at the highest level.
Currently Bevan field Junior & Senior teams in both the male & female competitions. We are looking to grow our junior program and increase the club size/strength.
Bevan started with 2 Bevan Cres School teams in 1970 wearing Black/White uniforms under the name “Bevan Knights”. In 1971 they entered their first Senior teams & changed their colours to Green/Gold. |
In the Mid-late 70’s Centrals, Hawks and later Iron Knob joined Bevan to further bolster the clubs size & strength and change the clubs colours to Red/White. In the mid 80’s Bevan inherited the name Bevan Braves.
In the 80’s Chris Blakemore played his junior basketball in Whyalla for Bevan Braves before he moved to Adelaide in 1991 to play for the 36ers alongside the likes of Brett Maher & Mark Davis.
Life member Darren Quinn played for Bevan for most his career. Darren is Whyalla’s most decorated local basketballer having won an amazing 20 MA MVP’s & over 20 Premierships more than any other player by a very long margin, and a feat unlikely to ever be beaten.
