| Roopena is Whyalla’s newest basketball club. It was Founded in 2016 by Julian Kovacic and Ruth Rowlands, their mission was to provide players another option, and to attract new players to the sport. | |
Roopena have a strong, young, active committee led by President Grant Colyer. The structures we have put in place have allowed us to quickly become a force in the local junior and senior competitions. Our goal is to build on our success.
We are always looking for new junior and senior players.

Founded by Julian Kovacic and Ruth Rowlands Roopena’s inception was inspired by dissolution with the existing structure at the time which was dominated by the 3 largest clubs of this era.
There hunch was right as players flocked to the new club looking for fresh start. Amazingly in just their 2nd season in the competition Roo’s took out the Men’s and Women’s A grade double a feat not achieved by any club since Wildcats in 2010. They repeated this achievement the following Summer.
In their short history they have quickly grown to be one of the biggest clubs in the WBA.
Roopena Basketball club is part of the Roopena Football & Sporting Club, they are the only club in the WBA to be affiliated with such a multisport entity.
