1977 – Spartans

SPARTANS- Basketball club was formed when 2 unisex clubs merged in the late 70’s. Barb Fleming & Bev Rumball from Tango & Ray Williamson & Barry 1986-Spartans-TeamWadingham from Y.M.C.A joined forces around the time the WBA moved to its new Jubilee Park stadium in 1978 to form Spartans.

The White/Green & Gold colour scheme came from the original colours of the merging clubs. Spartans men dominated the A grade competition in the 80’s appearing in all but 3 of the 20 finals played in this period.

Names like Marus Jaunalknis, Peter Bradshaw, Craig Clatworthy, Peter (Smokey) Dawson, Ray Williamson, Troy Schroeder, Chris Roberts, appear a lot in the WBA history books in this a era. Vicky Harris, Kylie (Pickert) Clothier & Tracey French were the clubs most decorated Female Players.

The Schroeder family namely Keith & his son Troy played a large part in Spartans & the WBA’s junior development program in the late 80’s & 90’s.

LATTER DAY SAINTS (L.D.S)–In 1955 the Mormons basketball club became one of the WBA’s founding clubs.

POSTALS – Are one of the founding clubs of the WBA. They started as a group of workers from the South Australian Postal Institute.
